The mission of Christ United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ. It seems like a rather straight forward mission, but what does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus Christ?
I would like to suggest that if we take our mission seriously then we will offer ministry opportunites that fulfill the mission. The ministries of the church equip potential and growing disciples of Jesus Christ to live out their faith in practical ways. The shared witness of these ministries defines what we, as the congregation of Christ United Methodist Church, understand faithful discipleship to be.
So what is a disciple of Jesus Christ? A disciple of Jesus Christ is a person who:
1. is welcoming of and open to all persons (Hospitality Ministry).
2. honors God through acts of personal and corporate worship (Worship Ministry).
4. has a healthy mind, body and spirit (Health & Caring Ministry).
5. reaches out in love both locally and globally for the transformation of the world (Outreach Ministries).
To be a disciple of Jesus Christ does not mean that we get all of this right all the time. And, it doesn’t mean that we participate in every ministry the church offers. A disciple of Jesus Christ is someone who takes their faith seriously enough to put it into action in practical ways so that God’s love and mercy might be made known throughout the world. The ministries of Christ United Methodist Church are meant to do just that. So what are you waiting for? Put your faith into action and get involved! With God’s help, be a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ!
